The death of Margaret Thatcher has sent the Wizard of Oz soundtrack soaring up the midweek charts.

After the surge in popularity of an existing Facebook page entitled ‘Make Ding Dong! The Witch is Dead number one the week Thatcher dies’, Judy Garland’s 74-year-old song is now sitting at number 10 in the official UK chart.

By midnight on Tuesday it had been downloaded more than 10,600 times. It is also riding high in the iTunes and Amazon best-selling MPs charts.

And the Official Charts Company has revealed that it is only 5,000 sales away from hitting the top three.

There has also been increase in sales of two covers of the song — those by Ella Fitzgerald and The Munchkins.

Baroness Thatcher died on Monday morning at the Ritz hotel in London, after suffering a stroke.
